The Religious Education Program at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church exists to assist parents in their role as the primary educators of their children in the Catholic faith. Through catechesis, sacramental preparation, prayer, and community, we guide children and youth to know Jesus Christ, love His Church, and live as faithful disciples.
The section below is specific to religious education for children aged 3-17 years old, also known as CCD.
In particular, weekly religious education classes for grades pre-Kinder through 12th.
Early Faith Formation.
Preparation for First Reconciliation and First Communion.
Confirmation preparation.

For infant Baptism, this preparation is regularly scheduled in the Social Hall at 6:00 PM on the first Wednesday of each month, except during Advent and Lent; consult the parish bulletin/office for exact dates and any changes.

CCD 2026-2027 Applications will open March 16th for returning families and May 1st for new families.
Mission

Our program serves families from Pre-Kindergarten through High School and prepares students for the Sacraments of First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation. Classes run August through May each year.
Programs Offered:
Pre-Kindergarten Faith Formation (3-5 years old)
Designed for our youngest learners, this program introduces children to:
Basic Catholic prayers
The life of Jesus
The love of God
The rhythm of the Church year
This class helps children begin forming a relationship with Christ in a joyful and age-appropriate way.
First Communion Preparation (Elementary School)
First Communion preparation is a two-year process.
Year 1 – Communion Preparation Foundations
Students build foundational knowledge of the Catholic faith, including:
The Holy Trinity
The Mass
Prayer and Scripture
Introduction to the Sacraments
Year 2 – Sacramental Preparation
Students prepare to receive:
First Reconciliation
First Holy Communion
Requirements include regular attendance, participation at Sunday Mass, and parent involvement in sacramental meetings.
Confirmation Preparation (Middle School & High School) - 6th -12th Grade
Confirmation preparation is a structured, two-year process for students seeking to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Year 1 – Foundations of Faith
Students grow in understanding of:
Catholic doctrine
The Creed
The Sacraments
Moral life and discipleship
Year 2 – Immediate Preparation for Confirmation
Students prepare spiritually and practically through:
Saint selection
Sponsor preparation
Service opportunities
Retreat participation
Parent meetings
Candidates must demonstrate readiness, commitment, and regular Mass attendance.

Classes follow the parish academic calendar from August through May.
Registration:
Registration closes once classes reach capacity.
To register, families must:
Complete the online registration form
Submit a copy of the child’s Birth & Baptism certificate
Submit First Communion certificate (if applicable)
Attend an in-person appointment to finalize registration and payment
Late registrations may be placed on a waiting list.
If you are transferring from another parish or requesting sacramental permission elsewhere, please contact the Religious Education Office directly.
Sacramental Requirements
Sacramental preparation requires:
Consistent class attendance
Active participation
Parent involvement
Regular Sunday Mass attendance
Families will receive a detailed Parent Handbook outlining expectations, policies, and important dates.
Sacraments are not automatic upon completion of a year. Readiness and participation are essential components of preparation.

A full program calendar will be provided at the beginning of the year and will include:
Parent orientation meetings
Retreat dates
Reconciliation and First Communion celebrations
Confirmation rehearsal and Mass
Holiday breaks
Families are responsible for reviewing and marking these dates.

All volunteers must complete Safe Environment training and background clearance through the Diocese of Reno.
